Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Excellent for helping a cat train a human...
Well, apparently, I have to admit that it's my own fault I ever had to buy this product in the first place. I went out of town for a couple of days and my cat apparently was miserable at my absence and expressed her displeasure by soiling an area of my carpet. I hereby humbly acknowledge that I deserve what I got for abandoning my little queen for two days. Nevertheless, I simply couldn't let her continue in her habit of wanting to go back to that spot over and over to soil, no matter how hard, or with what, I cleaned that carpet. So I bought the scat product and put it in place after having cleaned the carpet as thoroughly as possible for the umpteenth time. And for a little while it worked wonders. The cat started using her litter box again and when the Scat squeeled and sprayed she jumped and ran. After a couple of months, however, my cat started to get ticked off that this Scat thing was standing between her and this spot on the carpet. So, she stalked it for a while, apparently trying to figure out how it worked. Eventually she figured out she could approach it from behind and knock it over. Of course, the motion sensor wouldn't stop going off after this, so I went to see what was going on. There was my cat, paw atop her prey from behind, in victory. I sat the thing upright and the next day saw her intentionally desensitizing herself to the spray. So I gave up on the idea that I would be able to rely on the spray to scare her away and fell back on the fact that when the motion sensor squealed I'd have to impress upon her the fact that I'd be there to shoo her away from the spot she so desperately wanted to get at. That worked for about a week. In other words, for about a week, she stayed away from the motion sensor and I didn't have to come running because of the squeals. Well, my cat hadn't forgotten the fact that I'd come running when the motion sensor squeals and now she intentionally just sits in front of it so that I'll come running (As long as something's sitting in front of the motion sensor, it keeps squealing). Her favorite time to do this is at 4AM when she wakes up and decides it's time for breakfast. This product has mostly served to turn my BELIEF that all living creatures are not only designed to adapt but are clever enough to eventually thwart our best efforts to change their behavior, into CONVICTION. You can best bet my cat will never be alone again. In fact, if I need to go out of town she'll get only the most posh kitty hotel. Thanks Scat for helping my cat relentlessly hammer home her point that I may never be allowed to forget my oversight in this case. I am now my cat's humble servant. Is that public confession enough, Princess??? Can I please have some peace, say for maybe another hour, now??? Could I please maybe sleep until 5am tomorrow??? (The moral of the story? Make sure you really want a cat for a pet before you get one. Dogs are tremendously more forgiving.) Oh, well, at least she's started using her litter box again.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love this product!
Honestly, I think this is a great product. I was dismayed to find that the sound option was not available on this unit as many others have noted, but it still works just fine without it. We've had it a week now, and it has truly changed our lives. Our big, curious, 6 month old kitten was constantly jumping up on the counters and licking/playing with our sink. I can't tell you how many times my hubby and I jumped up to spray him or yell at him. While watching a movie, we used to get up and down about 10 times just to get him down off the counters. Now, we have the SSSCAT. It's a lifesaver! We have a breakfast bar that overlooks the sink, so it's easy for us to reach over and turn it on and off without getting sprayed ourselves. Even still, we tend to forget about it and set it off more than the kitty! If we do forget to turn it on, he'll occasionally find his way back up there. So I don't know if it's "cured" him, but we have indeed reduced this habit dramatically. It's also nice to know that our sinks/counters are protected while we're at work. I have no idea how long the canister will last. We've had it for a week now, and I'd estimate that it "went off" and sprayed about 15 times so far -- and it's still going strong. I do dread having to buy more canisters for the price they are. I really wish that a competitor would come along and make something bigger and more affordable. But in the mean time, we'll recognize this product for what it truly is: a must-have for anyone dealing with the wretched "kitchen counter" issue. Highly recommended!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Ssscat - Performs exactly as advertised!
This product performs beautifully - exactly as advertised.
The ONLY thing I would mention is, if you have a considerably stubborn cat, you will need to order refills. It is taking quite a bit of time for one of my cats to get the full message. Ssscat keeps even my most UNFLAPPABLE feline away from everything on the counter - even my roast beef bait. And this cat is truly not afraid of anything - including my Great Dane, on whom the Ssscat works as well. (That was a BIG plus - no pun intended.)

So far (about one month into use), I've found that this product works on all of my critters - but only when it is turned ON! I had thought that after several spritzes my little imp would not want to mess with this bully any more, so I turned it off. Alas, after a couple of days he decided to take his chances. I do believe though, that in time, with constant use, they will all eventually get the message, and I may then put Ssscat to bed permanently. Until that day, my counter is no longer the Country Buffet, and most importantly, I can finally sleep without things going bump in the night. That in itself is worth much, much more than what I paid for this little gem.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Get that cat off the counter!
This product was exactly what I needed, not only to get the cats off the counter, but to keep the little dog from stalking our parrot from behind the cage! If you're using it in an area you frequent, it will catch you by surprise a few times and generate a few laughs from anyone who saw your reaction. We used it for about a week on the kitchen counter, and a few days under the parrot cage, and still haven't emptied the original canister. I did buy a refill just in case, so I have it if I need to curb any other bad habits or acquire other pets. We bought the SSScat kit and refill together and got a great price.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great ammunition in the war against bad kitties
Definitely a product I recommend, some thoughts:

- Works great to keep cats away from wherever you don't want them. I've used it both on the countertops and in front of shut doors (to keep them from scratching to go out)
- Just the right amount of noise to scare the cats away (I've been using them over a year and they are still scared of the noise) without being terrifying or anything. Sometimes I forget they are on and set them off myself, enough to make me jump but not too bad.
- There is sometimes a lag of a minute or two between the time you turn them on and when they start working. So if you set it up, turn it on, wave your hand in front of it, and it doesn't go off... give it a minute or two
- SAVE MONEY ON REFILLS - if I had to guess I'd say the cans last for about 50 sprays. I've bought a few and at $10 a pop I think it's a bit expensive. Another smart Amazon.com reviewer noted that the "keyboard duster" cans can be used instead and are a lot cheaper. I just bought one at Walmart for $5 and sure enough I was able to pop off the duster fitting and pop on the SSScat. Pretty cool, about half the price for about double the size.
