Ugandan Kippot StoreThese beautiful kippot were made by the Abayudaya in Uganda. Abayudaya is the word for "Jew" in the Uganda dialect. In 1920, the local Uganda king rejected Christianity and adopted Judaism for himself, his family, and his followers near Lake Victoria. Today more that 600 descendants of this group continue to keep Jewish practices. Rav Bakshi Doron, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, has encouraged the sending of a single Ugandan family to Israel to learn Hebrew in an ulpan and finish an orthodox giur (conversion). For various reasons, the heritage of the Abayudaya is questionable. However many among this group have requested to be given permission to undergo an orthodox giur l'chomre under the supervision of the Chief Rabbi. Upon completion of this giur, they would declare aliyah and join K'Cholmim in our various new yishuvim. All of the money that is generated through the sale of these kippot will be going to helping support the Ugandan Jews wishing to finish a giur and make aliyah. Among the expenses that we will, be helping them with are: food (ein kemach, ein torah, with no flour there is no torah), airplane tickets, visas, expenses while in Israel (which is already being heavily supported through the generous donations of Dr. Wapnick), etc. Please assist us in this wonderful opportunity to not only save human lives, but to help bring the estranged back home to Am Yisrael, Eretz Yisrael, and most fundamentally, Torat Yisrael.
